Donald Trump’s blunt response to pardon plea from Lindsay Clancy’s lawyers

Donald Trump has commented on the Lindsay Clancy case after the trial ended with a hung jury.

Clancy is accused of killing her children – 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan – inside the family’s home in Duxbury, a Boston suburb, on January 24, 2023.

While prosecutors argue that she was aware of her actions, Clancy’s defense has maintained that she was not criminally responsible for the killings because she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time.

After more than 38 hours of deliberations, the jury was ultimately deadlocked at 11-1, leaving the case unresolved and resulting in a mistrial.

Her lawyer, Kevin Reddington, appealed to President Donald Trump as he appeared on “Good Morning America” last week.

“Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady – the type of person she is and what she’s been through – and consider a pardon,” Reddington said, according to New York Post.

He then appeared on CBS Boston as well, once again asking the president for a pardon. Since Clancy is only facing state charges, however, Donald Trump doesn’t have the legal authority to grant the request.

“If President Trump feels that this is a case that warrants that type of intervention from the executive branch, if you will — even though, legally, it’s not a federal case — he certainly has an awful lot of clout,” he said, according to the outlet.

“I think any type of help that we can get is helpful.”

President Trump himself indicated that he will not offer Clancy a presidential pardon, as it is “actually a state situation, not a federal” one.

“It’s a very sad situation,” Trump told reporters Sunday, according to New York Post. “I certainly heard that, but look, it’s very sad. There is no winner there. There’s no win no matter what you do. Three children are dead.”

He added: “I hope they can work something out.”

With the jury unable to reach a unanimous verdict, the case remains unresolved — leaving the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Cora, Dawson and Callan at the center of a legal battle that is far from over.
